1.
Franklin 02:51
Desperate measures vacant nine to five gnawing hunger struggle to survive But this time this time you've gone too far this time they'll show no mercy Gleaming badges polished like a gun growing habit quota filling up This time this time you've gone too far This time you can't obscure it listened to him plead for his life then left him in a pool of blood This time this time you've gone to far this time they'll show no mercy hunted to a corner underground five bullets in the back of your skull
2.
Get Up & Go 03:31
Get up and go don't say a word you ain't never said nothin worth being heard And you rack up your quarrels like kids learning dynasties one to another then another comes back to me Feel me up like we're walking down rehearsal street eyes on the ground like passersby on their feet Get up and go I told you so Get up and go slip away in the night don't tell a soul just turn our your lights And you rattle your cage like back when you were seventeen wanderlust and I wish you'd come back to me Fill me up like the first drop of chemistry heart in my throat from your heat and intensity Get up and go I told you so
3.
Park Bench 04:36
Door slams loud enough to rattle window panes know what's coming I recognize the fear and strangled rage throw the latch and hide out from the storm your castle I ain't gotta take this I don't need the abuse All the shouting and the pacing and the bitterness of youth No use in saying words already been said I got fifteen bucks it's warm enough to Sleep outside again Door slams and offers no resistance to your arm so I know what's coming pull my backbone straight and set my jaw now we're toe to toe again never eye to eye your castle tonight I'm gonna leave it all I ain't gotta take this I don't need the abuse All the shouting and the pacing and the bitterness of youth No use in saying words already been said I got fifteen bucks it's warm enough Sleep outside again
4.
Carnivore 02:55
Stop wait a minute tell some lies with me they ain't nothing new but they're what I need I always loved you I always will and when he calls I will love you still What are these sweet lies we tell each other I can change said the carnivore show gets old tips get stiffer end of the night your lip still quivers For me Stop packing up don't think we're young enough anymore you never know if this is the last time so leave it in the either cuz I'm still a believer know he might steal ya but not tonight What are these sweet lies we tell each other I can change said the carnivore show gets old tips get stiffer end of the night your lip still quivers

TAPES AVAILABLE FROM ECSTATTIC RECORDS
[https://ecstatticstudio.bandcamp.com/album/ecs-021-s-t-by-blue-ruin]

This self-titled EP is the second release from Minneapolis-based Motown-Punks BLUE RUIN.

Representing a departure from their first EP, "Blue Ruin" trades in the scuzzed-out good-time vibes of their debut for something darker and more nuanced, mixing Big Classic Rock, Motown and weirdo punk rock into a groove-heavy exploration of various heartbreaks.

The change pays dividend right from the start: "Franklin" is an infectious slice of guitar-pop heaven, while "Get Up & Go" rides a skeletal groove into straight-up rock-n-roll territory. Meanwhile, "Carnivore" and "Park Bench" show the band equally adept at slowing things down to a propulsive mid-tempo for some bruised balladeering.

I could write more, but this insanely tight four-song set does all the convincing on its own. Give it a spin and you'll be coming back for more.

In early 2011, four kids from South Minneapolis formed a band. Drawing equal influence from their time in the trenches of the Twin Cities Punk scene and the dusty grooves of their favorite Soul and R&B records, Blue Ruin created a raw, guitar driven sound with an emphasis on the groove. ... more
